Nick Cave began creating his Soundsuit series in an attempt to process his trauma associated with the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The soundsuits became a way for him to condition his spirit against adversity and to form a “second skin” Nick Cave is widely acclaimed for his exuberant “Soundsuits”—wearable sculptural forms based on the human body, intricately composed out of a vibrant assortment of second-hand materials. The exhibition at Telfair Museums features a selection of soundsuits made in the past decade, as well as two tondos—large circular works evoking the night sky and the cosmos—and two recent videos documenting the soundsuits and their use in performance.
